VASJ TRACK – Vikings girls 4×200 relay comes up just short of state bid

VASJ has three sophomores and a freshman on the girls 4×200 relay team this spring. The youthful Vikings will have plenty of motivation to get ready for next season after coming up just short in a bid for the state meet on May 27. VASJ finished fifth in a time of 1:45.45 just .04 seconds

VASJ TRACK – Girls 4×200 relay advances to regional finals

VASJ’s girls 4×200 relay team is one step away from the Division II state meet. The team of Mikeya Cook-Howard, Maritza Strong, Jayla Currie and Voni Jones qualified for the regional finals at Austintown Fitch by finishing fourth (1:46.96) in the preliminaries on May 25. The Vikings will run in the finals on May 27

VASJ had a strong showing on both the boys and girls side in the preliminaries on May 18 and are in good position to advance to the regionals. VASJ junior Nate Dean continued his impressive spring on May 4 at the NCL meet at Padua. Dean won the 400M in a News-Herald area best time of 50.80 and later came back to anchor the Vikings’ winning 4×400 relay (3:31.45). “I was focusing on trying to PR today,” Dean told the News-Herald’s Chris Lillstrung.
