The Vikings Cross Country team ran a very strong race on Saturday, August 25, at the Berkshire Early Bird Invitational held at the Kent State Geauga Campus in Burton, OH. The boys placed 11 out of 20 teams with a total of 320 points. This is a significant improvement from their finish at the same race last year (28 of 33 teams with 765 points). All returning runners beat their times from last year by a considerable amount. Leading the Vikings was freshman BK Kwasniak, who placed 29th with a time of 17:25.5. Next in for the Vikings was junior Dylan Barnett (54th with a time of 18:17.2) and sophomore David Hoffmann (59th with a time of 18:27.0). Rounding out scoring for the boys team was junior Davante Callahan with a time of 19:33.5 and freshman Brendan Quinlan with a time of 19:47.5. Closely behind the top five were juniors Phil Davis (19:49.0) and Matt Fronczek (19:52.3). Freshman Thomas Coyne finished with a time of 27:22.7.
On the girls side, leading the team was freshman Jayda Bacchus, who placed 54th with a time of 23:55.5. Hannah Franczyk began her senior season with a time of 26:45.4, and sophomore Annalise Gibbons rounded out the girls team with a time of 27:35.4.
The Vikings next race is the Cardinal Classic on Saturday, September 1, at Garfield Park in Mentor, OH.
