Ask VASJ coach Babe Kwasniak what the most important game on the Vikings’ schedule is and it doesn’t take long for him to answer.
St. Edward? No.
Lake Catholic, Benedictine, Central Catholic? No.
Without hesitation it is the match-up against the Broadmoor Bobcats.
Feb. 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Viking Vilage, the undefeated Broadmoor Bobcats come back to take on the 7-time state champion VASJ Vikings.
Broadmoor is a school for developmentally challenged students located in Mentor. The Bobcats host many local teams at the gym on Reynolds Road, but the chance to travel to a high school venue is always a thrill for the players at Broadmoor and for the host team.
“What a stretch of games we are about to embark on. Broadmoor, Lake Catholic, Mentor, CCC and then Eds. Are you kidding me?” Kwasniak said.
“Broadmoor and Eds are the only 2 teams we have NEVER beaten since I’ve been coaching here, would be nice to get that monkey off my back.
“I think it’s very apropos that this game is on Valentine’s Day, because you will see a lot of LOVE in this game. I’ve said it many times, give me the Broadmoor game over any state championship game. It’s just the best. I know our principal Dave Csank feels the same way, he was adamant about the Bobcats coming to the Village once again!”
Broadmoor has played at Viking Village previously in 2015, 2018 and 2019.
VASJ travels to Lake Catholic for a game with the Cougars on Friday night.
