A confident VASJ team has long put behind itself a season-opening loss and is officially on a roll.
The Vikings continued its strong defensive play and executed when needed offensively to defeat host Warrensville Heights, 21-12, on Sept. 20.
It was the third straight win for VASJ, which takes a 3-1 record into a Week 5 match up with Port Clinton.
“The kids have really responded well and have played the game and prepared the right way,” VASJ coach Elvis Grbac said. “Our defense is playing extremely well and I think we are managing the game and doing some very nice things on offense.”
Warrensville jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, which snapped VASJ’s streak of back-to-back shutouts.
However, a touchdown by Lavelle Smith and a TD hookup by Cameron Williams from Kevin Eiseman put the Vikings ahead 14-6 at half.
“I think the kids were frustrated when they scored on us because they take pride in not allowing points, but they responded well,” Grbac said. “We did some good things and managed the clock and scored before half and then put the game away in the fourth.”
After the Tigers cut the deficit to 14-12, VASJ scored the icing TD in the fourth for the 9-point win.
