Vikings News · VASJ GOLF – Kwasniak’s hot start leads Vikings to solid first week

The first week of the 2019 season was a busy, but productive one for the VASJ golf team.

The Vikings competed in four tournaments during the opening week.

On Aug. 5, the Vikings traveled to Trumbull Country Club for the JFK Eagle Invitational. VASJ posted a 380, which was good enough to secure them 8th out of 15 teams. BK Kwasniak led all Vikings with an 86. Paul Wise shot 94, Zac Tizzano 96 and Patrick Dunmire 102.
On Aug. 6, VASJ went to Punderson Golf Course for the Kenston Invitational. Kwasniak once again led the Vikings carding an 89. Wise was only two shots back with a 91. Dunmire scored a 99 and Zac Tizzano finished out the team score with a 101. The team total of 380 put the Vikings 7th out of 16 teams.
On Aug. 8, VASJ played at Brookside Golf Course for the Simonson Construction Invitational. With Wise and Johnathan Cook out, the Vikings needed all competitors to come up big. Tizzano got things going firing a 93, with a strong back nine of 44. Dunmire posted a 102 and freshman Sammy Turk came up huge scoring for the first time in her young Viking career with a 103.
Kwasniak heated up on his back 9, stringing together a number of pars with some sensational work around the green.  His chipping and putting helped him record the best round of his career with a 78. The 78 earned Kwasniak 3rd place out of of 102 golfers. The 376 total team score placed the Vikings 5th out of 17 teams.
On Aug. 9, the Vikings traveled to Ironwood Golf Course for the Cleveland Clinic Trinity Golf Classic. Finishing up a strong week of golf, VASJ posted a 378 to take 8th out of 16.  Ironwood proved to be challenging with it’s heavily lined fairways and uneven terrain. Kwasniak led all Vikings with an 81, just missing being honored as a top 8 individual by one shot. Tizzano had a strong finish to end with a 96, earning him second best honors on the team. Wise returned to action scoring a 99 and Dunmire fired a 102 rounding out the team scoring.
The Vikings look to get the regular season off successfully on Aug. 12 at Briardale Greens Golf Course in Euclid when they host rivals Bennedictine and Lake Catholic.
