Senior pitcher Kyle Trickett was voted to 2nd Team All-Ohio for Division 3 in the state of Ohio. Trickett was the ace of the Viking staff this season; pitching 51.0 innings, racking up 93 strikeouts, and had an ERA of 0.824. In his last 6 games on the mound Trickett gave up only 1 earned run across 36 innings and struck out 74 batters.
In the postseason, Trickett was a big part of the Vikings advancing to the District Championship Game. The lefty pitched two complete game shutouts in the Sectional Final and District Semi to propel the Vikings to the championship game. Trickett pitched 14.0 innings, recorded 24 strikeouts, and allowed only 3 hits in the postseason.
VASJ Head Coach Dennis Woods was named the Ohio Division 3 Coach of the Year. Woods led the Vikings to a 16-11 record and a berth in the District Championship Game. The Vikings were district runner-ups for the first time since 2006.
In addition to the success the team had on the field, Coach Woods’ contributions off the field for the Vikings have been just as significant. Since being hired in November, Coach Woods has built a brand new outdoor batting cage and bullpen for the team. He also converted the old wood shop into an indoor batting cage that can be used year-round.
