On Wednesday May 8th, the VASJ baseball team traveled to Burton, Ohio to take on Berkshire High School. The Vikings dominated the game from start to finish, winning by a final score of 12-0.
VASJ played solid baseball and showed discipline at the plate, drawing 10 walks as a team. The Vikings made Berkshire pay for the free passes by consistently coming up with clutch hits to score runners. VASJ did not record an extra base hit in the game, but they did not need the long ball as they smacked 13 singles as a team.
Kobie Parker led the way, going 3-5 at the plate and drove in 2 runs. Owen Nunnally had 2 singles and drove in 3 runs of his own. Kyle Trickett also had 2 hits and crossed the plate twice for the Vikings. Johnathon Cook, Liam Brown, Andrew Oriani, Pat Creegan, Zac Tizzano, and Larry Osborne all reached safely with singles.
In addition to his contributions at the plate, Senior Kyle Trickett pitched a gem on the mound for VASJ. Trickett went the distance, pitching all six innings without allowing a run. Trickett was dominant and recorded 12 of the 18 outs in the game via strikeout.
The win brings the season record to 11-10 for VASJ.
The Vikings return to the diamond tonight as they host Painesville Harvey at 6:00pm at Stanic Field.
