The VASJ Track Team opened its season on Saturday, April 6th at Medina High School. The meet provided good experience for the athletes early in the outdoor track season. The level of competition was high as the Vikings competed against majority DI schools in the first meet of the year
On the boys side Junior Antonio Bryant ran an impressive PR time of 23.33 in the open 200 and 11.72 in the open 100. The 4×8 consisting of David Hoffman, Dylan Barnett, Davante Callahan and BK Kwasniak opened the season running a time of 9:00.15 finishing 9th. The 4×4 consisting of Deonte Warren, Antonio Bryant, Andre Terry, and Jordan Dean ran a time of 3:39.72.
The girls also ran well against top competition. Senior Jayla Currie placed 6th in the open 200 with a time 26.87 and fellow senior Shaundrea Harris placed 5th in the open 100 running 13.36. The 4×4 consisting of Mikeya Cook-Howard, Maritza Strong, Jayla Currie, and Julie LeQuay also placed 5th with a time of 4:17.29.
The track coaches were happy with how the first meet went, but will continue to look for improvement
“Overall we were pleased with the performances of the team as a whole. It’s still really early in the season so we are looking forward to some stand out performances in the near future. We have a team full of potential.”
The boys and girsl track teams return to the track on Tuesday April 9th as they host a meet on McDonough Track at VASJ High School. The Vikings will be competing against Berkshire, Cornerstone, Gilmour Academy, Northeast Ohio Prep, Horizon Science Academy, Rhodes, St. Martin de Porres, and Shaw. The meet will begin at 4:30pm.
