The Viking Softball Team fell last night in their first NCL contest against Trinity.
Freshman Caroline Monaco started on the mound for VASJ and did a good job of throwing strikes and allowing the defense the opportunities to make plays in the field. Sophomore Jasmine Riddle came in to pitch in relief in the 4th and 5th innings and continued to throw strikes as well, forcing Trinity into some easy outs for the Vikings.
At the plate the Viking bats found some life in the 4th and 5th innings plating 4 runs combined in those two innings. Rhiannan Edwards got the Vikings on the board in the 4th with a 2 out RBI triple hit to deep center field, scoring Kaitlyn Jablonski all the way from 1st base. The Viking bats stayed hot in the 5th inning as they added three hits and three runs in the inning. Alia Sealy started the inning off with a great at bat to draw a walk. Caroline Monaco and Emmy Rowell each hit hard singles through the infield to load the bases. Kimani Ball hit a smash down the left field line that cleared the bases for a 3-run double.
Coach Ron Fabo is seeing improvement in the offense. “We swing the bats well in the late innings. We just need to have the confidence to do it early in the game now.”
The Vikings next game is today, Thursday April 4th, as they travel to Bacci Park to take on Cuyahoga Heights at 4:30pm.
