Seniors Lia Campbell, Kenya Ball, and Iyana Smith made sure they had a senior night to remember, dominating Warren JFK by a final score of 81-30.
Smith got the Viking offense rolling from the start, burying two three-pointers on her way to 10 points in the opening quarter. Junior Michele Blackshear contributed to the big opening quarter for the Vikings by getting steals and converting them into layups on the other end for six first quarter points of her own.
The second quarter belonged to Senior Lia Campbell. Campbell established a strong presence in the paint and converted three field goals in the quarter for six points. Add in a three-pointer from freshman Morgan Parker, buckets from Blackshear and sophomore Willo SIngleton, and VASJ had opened up a 20-point lead going into the locker room for halftime 34-14.
The Vikings did not show any signs of letting down in the third quarter. Blackshear continued her strong performance by scoring 10 points in the third quarter. Senior Kenya Ball joined in on the scoring outburst by adding two threes of her own in the second half. After a 26-point third quarter by the Vikings, they had built a 60-18 lead going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Iyana Smith made two more three-pointers, and Ball made her second three of the game and Lia Campbell added another bucket of her own. The seniors were able to make their curtain call to a standing ovation from the Viking Village as they left the floor for the final time together.
VASJ finished out the quarter, winning the game 81-30.
Senior Iyana Smith and junior Michele Blackshear led the scoring for the Vikings with 20 points each. Senior Lia Campbell netted 10 points and senior Kenya Ball had six.
As a team, the Vikings made nine three-pointers.
The Lady Vikings are back in action on February 11 as they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas
