On Wednesday night, the Lady Vikings basketball traveled to Lutheran East to take on the Lady Falcons and came home with a 61-58 victory.
During the first quarter, the Falcons came out hot and the Lady Vikes struggled to run their offensive sets and put points on the board. The quarter ended with the Falcons up 17-6. The second quarter looked much the same, with the Falcons’ top scorers, Henderson and Eppinger, scoring on several fast breaks and three-point shots. The halftime score was 32-17 Falcons, and it didn’t look good for the Lady Vikes.
After halftime, the Lady Vikings came out hungry for a victory and began to battle back. Michelle Blackshear sparked the team’s energy with a few steals early in the third quarter and scored four points herself. Leah Campbell came alive underneath the basket, getting rebounds and scoring eight of her 16 total points for the night. Freshman Morgan Parker lead the Lady Vikes at point guard in place of Willo Singleton who was absent for the night, and Parker contributed with several steals and nine points of her own.
The Vikes went into the fourth quarter down seven points, and by the 4:39-minute mark, the score was 49-51 Falcons. Parker had a chance to tie the game with two foul shots, and after hitting both shots, the game was tied 51-51. The battle raged on and at 3:07 left in the game, the score was tied again 55-55. Blackshear took a charge from Henderson to get the ball back and the Lady Vikes scored a few more baskets to take the lead 60-57 with one minute left to play. The Vikes successfully ran the clock down from there and came out with a 61-58 win.
The Lady Vikings play again on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at home against CCC.
