VASJ big man Khalil Mitcham had his best game of the year, scoring 19 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists to lead the Vikings to an 81-51 win over Cornerstone Christian on Jan. 8.
“Khalil was unbelievable – didn’t miss a shot and was so unselfish it reminded me of Duane Gibson … he could have scored 30 if he wanted but he is all about winning not stats, that is who he is,” VASJ coach Babe Kwasniak said.
The Vikings improved to 8-2 on the season against a brutal schedule with a dominant third quarter in which they outscored the Patriots, 26-9.
“Balance has been the key to the season, we have so many guys who can score double digits, but our schedule coming up is tough,” Kwasniak said.
Jaden Hameed, Latrace Jackson and Jason Priah each chipped in 12 for VASJ, which hosts Benedictine on Jan. 11. Priah also pulled down 14 rebounds.
The Vikings had a season-high 28 assists, led by Jordan Calhoun with a team-high 9.
