It was a triumphant return to Viking Village for VASJ.
After a holiday trip to Missouri and a road win at Walsh Jesuit, the Vikings came home for the first time in 2019 and routed Warren JFK, 65-35, on Jan. 5.
It was the third straight victory for VASJ, which improved to 7-2 on the season.
Jaden Hameed led the Vikings with 11 points and Jason Priah added 10. Latrace Jackson and Jordan Calhoun each scored 9 points and Julius Cummings added 7 for VASJ.
Freshman BK Kwasniak scored his first varsity basket.
“Three guys got substantial minutes that have earned it: Julius Cummings, Sean Johnson and George Wilson,” VASJ coach Babe Kwasniak said.
“Having my son score his first bucket at a school that he has been a part of since he was 6 was truly special. I get choked up thinking of all my players that had him as their ball boy that would have loved to
witness that. The guy who didn’t miss it was my Dad – how many grandfathers get to coach their grandson at a place where he has spent over 30 years at?”
Vikings standout Nate Dean, who won the Division III 400M state championship for VASJ in 2018, was honored at halftime.
“Finally, we are so proud of our own Nate Dean for being awarded his state title ring in track. The Dean family is synonymous with the Viking Village. VASJ is truly a place where friends become family, I consider the Deans family,” Kwasniak said.
