On Wednesday night, the Lady Vikings basketball traveled to Trinity High School, home of the Lady Trojans. After another long battle, the Lady Vikings lost a heartbreaker, 46-44.
The Lady Vikings continued to improve their first quarter performance on Wednesday night, outscoring the Lady Trojans 10-6 and running a strong offensive set right out of the gate. Smith had six points and was assisted by Campbell and Blacksheer who had two each.
The Lady Trojans changed the tide of the game in the second quarter though, outscoring the Vikes 15-8, when their three-point shooters, Ibos and Corporan, came alive. Freshman Maya Parker hit one three-pointer for the Lady Vikes to answer the Trojans. The score was 22-18 Trojans at halftime.
A tight third quarter ensued (13-10 Trojans), with Sophomore Delesia Hall getting into the action with some strong takes to the basket (four points) while Campbell, Blacksheer, and Ball continued to chip away at the Trojans with individual field goals.
Campbell hit a crucial layup at 1:41 left in the game to bring the Lady Vikes within one point of the Trojans, and Ball hit a foul shot soon thereafter to tie the game with 43-43, with 1:25 left to play. Ibos quickly hit a two-point shot and with nine seconds left, the Lady Vikes in-bounded the ball to Blacksheer who took a strong drive to the basket for a narrow miss, and the Trojans took the game by two points.
The Lady Vikings are 2-4. They play Walsh Jesuit at Walsh on Saturday.
