The Lady Vikings basketball team hosted the Holy Name Namers on Saturday, December 1. Despite a very strong effort by the Lady Vikings, the Namers emerged victorious with a 46-36 win.
The Lady Vikings began the game with field goals from Michele Blacksheer, Willo Singleton, and a three-point shot from Iyana Smith. But the Namers’ top scorer, Becky Styers, put up 11 points in the first quarter and was difficult to stop. The Vikings fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Namers 9-6 due to a strong rebounding and loose ball effort from Kenyalise Ball and some strong post moves from Lia Campbell.
The Vikings continued to battle in the third quarter with excellent defense, holding the Namers to just nine points, but #42 Lauren Boling came alive and dropped nine points herself in the fourth quarter, leading her team to a close victory.
The Lady Vikings play again tonight at home against Laurel.
