Vikings News · VASJ TRACK – Vikings continue to improve at competitive Mansfield Mehock Relays

VASJ senior Chris Boykin had a busy and productive afternoon at the Mansfield Mehock Relays on April 14.

Competing against a strong field, Boykin qualified for the finals in three individual events – the 100, 200 and long jump – and was the lead runner on the 4×200 relay that placed 9th.

Boykin finished seventh in the 100 (PR – 11.52), fifth in the 200 and 12th in the long jump. He set a season best of 19-04.50 in the long jump.

Vikings senior Nate Dean finished third in the 400 with a time of 50.88. Jordan Dean finished 16th in the 400 with a time of 56.33.

The 4×200 relay team of Boykin, Nate Dean, Antonio Bryant and Carl Chaney placed 9th in a time of 1:36.00.

Robbie Guzzo ran a PR of 11:57.09 in the 3200.

David Hoffman finished 27th in the 1600 and 31st in the 800. Davante Callahan finished 31st in the 1600.

Chaney, Bryant, Devland Culliver and Aaron Martin ran the 4×100 relay for VASJ finishing in 10th with a time of 48.55.

Chaney, Culliver, Jordan Dean and Jordan Ellul made up the 12th place 4×400 relay for the Vikings.

Senior Adam Stauffer competed in the shot put and discus for VASJ .

VASJ finished 17th in the overall team standings.

On the girls side, the Vikings were strong as usual in the sprint relays. VASJ took 4th in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.

The 4×100 relay team of Mikeya Cook-Howard, Shaundrea Harris, Jayla Currie and Voni Jones ran a time of 51.50.

The 4×200 relay team of Howard, Currie, Jones and Maritza Strong ran a time of 1:49.73.

The 4×400 relay team of Strong, Currie, Ashanti Turner and Julie LeQuay finished seventh.

Currie placed 8th and Cook-Howard finished 15 in the 200. Harris placed 11th and Cook-Howard 16th in the 100.

LeQuay placed ninth in the 800 with a time of 2:33.11. Turner placed 14th in the 300M hurdles at 53.76.

Freshman Arianna Wallace competed in the shot put and the discus for the Vikings.

Strong was 10th in the 400 at 1:04.36.

Despite only having eight girls at the event, the Vikings placed 16th overall in a deep field.
