VASJ senior Patrick Sheridan placed third at the D3 Garfield Heights District tournament and has drawn an opening match vs. Coldwater’s Thomas Schwieterman in the first match in the state tournament in Columbus.
Sheridan is a two-time heavyweight division qualifier at the state tournament, an achievement that Coach Bob Mullin is extremely proud of.
“All my best wishes go out to Pat Sheridan this week and weekend. You have made us all so proud, Pat. I’m not sure of any upper weights to achieve 100-plus wins, certainly I did not. What a special thing to make that 100-win milestone with your buddy and classmate King Seyou ….I know King with be with you all weekend,” Mullin said.
“Pat, because you have wrestled so well, for so long, you are ready for state! I couldn’t be more proud. Upon your acceptance of a football scholarship to Ashland University, you have decided to continue. That really means something these days. Many would push their wrestling shoes to the center of the circle and exit the sport. Instead, you did what I ask of many Vikings in the past, to finish what you have started. Well done Pat! You have nothing to prove to anyone. Have fun and enjoy the experience!”
The state wrestling tournament will take place March 8-10 in Columbus.
