The VASJ Lady Vikings basketball and the Gilmour Lady Lancers faced off at Lakeside High School on Monday, February 26, for the District Playoff game. After a long fight, Gilmour took the win, 71-28, and advanced to the next round of the playoffs.
The game started off evenly, with both teams scoring to answer each other, but the Lady Lancers pulled away early and made the score 28-10 by the end of the first quarter. Consistent three-point shots from the Lancer’s main scoring machines, #3, #21, and hard work down low in the paint from #00 made the Lady Vikes’ large point deficit even more difficult to escape.
In the second quarter, the Lady Vikes went on a short-burst run for eight points with contributions from Ball, Blacksheer, and Campbell, but the Lancers hit three more three-point shots and snatched a handful of breakaway layups that made the score 47-18 at halftime.
The second half saw a fierce team of Lady Vikings who fought hard and scrapped for loose balls, but the Lancers were almost unstoppable from the three-point line. More shots from #31 and #30 helped clinch the game for the Lancers. The Lady Vikes showed their tenacity in the fourth quarter and never gave up despite the huge point deficit, with Blacksheer scoring a layup at the last second of the game.
