The Lady Vikings basketball team hosted the Jefferson Area Falcons on Thursday, February 22, and secured a 77-43 win, which granted them the Sectional Championship.
The Lady Vikes dominated the first quarter by setting up a fast-break offense that the Lady Falcons had a difficult time keeping up with. Both Sabas, Mastracola, Blacksheer, Smith, Ali, and Bates all had breakaway layups in the first quarter, which combined with Jenine Saba’s three-point shot to give the Vikings a 21-12 lead over the Lady Falcons by the time the second quarter started. #3 for the Lady Falcons hit two, three-point shots early in the second quarter to bring her team back within striking distance, but the Lady Vikes–lead by Ball with two three pointers of her own– fought hard to keep their lead, and ended the second quarter with a score of 42-26.
The second half looked much like the first, as the Falcons pulled out all the stops to try and close the point deficit, but the Lady Vikes refused to let them back into the game. Quarters three and four saw three-point shots from Molson, Bates, and Smith, and more breakaway layups from Serena Saba and Ali which helped the Lady Vikes secure their 42-26 win.
The Lady Vikings play Gilmour Academy at Lakeside High School on Monday, February 26, at 6 p.m. in the District Semifinals.
