The Jeff Hunter Memorial Spaghetti Dinner was again a huge success for the VASJ wrestling program, featuring a big crowd at Viking Village and raising a nice sum of money.
And for dessert, the Vikings swept the dual meet on Feb. 10.
VASJ defeated Euclid, 45-18, and beat Warrensville Heights, 39-30. The Vikings improved to 5-2 in duals on the season.
“It was a great night and I was very pleased with our boys’ performance and the fans who came and supported us at Viking Village,” VASJ coach Bob Mullin said. “We raised money for the program and got some good work in on the mat in front of the home crowd.”
Several VASJ wrestlers continued to perform well this winter at the Hunter Memorial.
Charlie Stachnik went 1-1, Ray Velez was 1-1, senior King Seyou 2-0 (2 forfeits), Carl Chaney finished 2-0 with 2 forfeits, Josh Longstreet went 2-0 with 2 pins, C.J. Green was 1-1, Kiras Kijauskas finished 1-1 despite suffering an ankle injury, and senior Pat Sheridan was 2-0 with a pin and a forfeit.
VASJ has two tri-matches coming up in preparation for the Division III postseason tournament beginning the following week at Independence High School. The first tri-match is Feb. 14 at Walsh Jesuit and the second at Glenville on Feb. 17.
