The Viking Wrestling Team made the trip out to Lake County Thursday, Jan. 11, to take on the St. Ignatius B Team and the Hornets of Kirtland High School. While the Vikings feature a blend of experienced and young wrestlers, Thursday evening was an obvious sign of continued growth.
Josh Longstreet ’21 was a tremendous example of a young wrestler reaping the benefits of the Viking Wrestling Program. Longstreet pinned his way through the night and ended up at 2-0.
Experienced Viking Wrestlers such as Ray Velez ’18, King Seyou ’18, Kiras Kijauskas ’19, and Pat Sheridan ’18 demonstrated their growth in their victories versus Kirtland wrestlers. Velez and Seyou won by fall in two tremendous matches, in which their conditioning and skill were obvious. Sheridan and Kijauskas asserted dominance through pin. Kijauskas pinned his opponent in under one minute as he looks to hit full stride mid-season.
