VASJ had to wait more than two weeks to play a game because of Mother Nature.
It was worth the wait.
The Vikings came out ready with a 92-66 win over NCL White foe Trinity on Jan. 10, but the time off was not lost on head coach Babe Kwasniak.
“With all due respect to Trinity, and they played hard and had us scouted well, we looked like a team that hasn’t played in a few weeks,” Kwasniak said.
“If we play like that moving forward we will get beat. We have to get better at all levels.
“However, it was good to get back on the floor.”
VASJ senior point guard Jerry Higgins had 31 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in the win vs. the Trojans. It was the first game the Vikings have played since Dec. 23 when Higgins surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for his career.
Khalil Mitcham scored 15 points, and Latrace Jackson and Jaden Hameed scored 12 points each for the Vikings in the win over the Trojans.
“There are things we need to clean up, and not because of the long break,” Kwasniak said. “But I like our guys’ attitude and approach to the rest of the season. Defensively, we know tonight wasn’t good enough. We will get better.”
