VASJ senior point guard Jerry Higgins eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career in a 79-37 win over New Day Academy on Dec. 23.
Higgins needed 13 points entering the game to reach the 1,000-point plateau and easily reached the mark as the Vikings rolled past New Day Academy to improve to 4-3 on the season. Higgins, an All-Ohio selection as a junior, scored 17 points – all in the first half – and reached the milestone in the second quarter of the win on Dec. 23.
“I’m so blessed to be able to reach this milestone, but this isn’t just about me though. It’s about some of the amazing teammates that I have played with, developed from, and have always held me accountable over the years,” Higgins said.
“The best part about tonight wasn’t scoring the 1000th point, but seeing all my teammates and former teammates be that happy to see me reach I️t. Players like Brian (Parker) and Dererk (Pardon) are playing in the middle of difficult D1 schedules where they work relentlessly, and to see them come home for the holidays to celebrate this moment with me at VASJ was amazing. Many coaches, players, managers and fans played a role in this accomplishment, so this isn’t all about myself.”
Enavell Lighty scored 16 points, and Jaden Hameed and Khalil Mitcham each scored 10 for VASJ.
