The last time the VASJ Vikings lost an NCL White Division game was at Warren JFK at the end of last season.
Not this time.
Led by senior point guard Jerry Higgins with 25 points, VASJ had 13 players score as the Vikings routed visiting Warren JFK, 104-68, in the league opener in the NCL White for the defending conference champs.
Freshman standout Jaden Hameed scored 15 points, junior Khalil Mitcham added 12 points and junior guard Jordan Calhoun chipped in 11 for VASJ as the Vikings got back to .500 on the season at 3-3 and won the first game of the NCL White schedule.
“We lost to JFK last time we played so this was good. Our big guys played well and were strong and smart,” VASJ coach Babe Kwasniak said. “If we get that kind of play out of those guys, and Jerry is Jerry, we can be really good. We are young, but I like this team.”
Jason Priah scored seven points and played well for the Viking in ways that won’t always add up in the box score.
“Jason Priah played a great game and things that maybe most people won’t recognize,” Kwasniak said.
“We have a chance to be very dangerous, it just depends on the guys that step up and if we keep working hard which I think we will.”
