Vance Marbury has been named the new Athletic Director at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School.
The announcement was made on November 20 by VASJ Principal David Csank and President Bill Cervenik ’72.
With a masters degree in Sports Management and experience working in various athletic departments, Marbury is more than qualified for the job.
“The search process was very thorough and we examined dozens of qualified candidates,” Csank says. “Vance’s experiences running a variety of youth athletic programs, budgeting, and fundraising made him stand out from all others.”
Marbury’s time spent mentoring and coaching youth in his current role at the Boys and Girls Club and other capacities, make him an ideal candidate for the job.
“During the interview, it was clear Vance understood that in addition to being the Athletic Director, he has a responsibility to serve as a role model and to ensure that academic success remains a priority for all student-athletes,” Cervenik says.
Marbury will start at VASJ on November 27 and is eager to begin his new role.
“I’m excited to work at VASJ because of the rich tradition the school has,” Marbury says. “We want to be one of the best athletic schools in the state, so we will work hard towards that goal.”
Marbury will be replacing Nate Zavorek ’94 who recently announced his family is moving out of state.
“We want to thank Nate for his dedication to VASJ and all he has done for not only Viking athletics, but the entire Viking Village,” Csank says. “We wish him all the best as he begins this next chapter in his life.”
The search committee is confident they have found the ideal replacement to continue Nate’s great work at VASJ.
“We are grateful to Nate for all he accomplished during his five years at VASJ and we are sad to see him go,” Cervenik says. “We are thankful to have found Vance, who has the vision needed to continue the strong tradition and history of Viking athletics.”
