Multiple Teams · VASJ CROSS COUNTRY – 2017 SEASON PREVIEW

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

A very young team will run in the VASJ colors this fall.

Coach Scott McNulty has a roster of all sophomores and one promising freshman.

Dylan Barnett, Gordon Boru, Davante Callahan, Phillip Davis, Matthew Fronczek and Deonte Warren are part of a talented sophomore class of distance runners. David Hoffman is a freshman who will make an impact this season for the Vikings.

McNulty said the team is very much ahead of where it was a year ago and looks for several runners to break the 20-minute mark whereas in 2016 that only happened three times.

“It’s a good group that is going to keep getting better, and they are all young so it is exciting,” McNulty said.

The boys start the season at Akron Firestone on Aug. 23.

GIRLS

McNulty has six girls running this season, which is enough to field a full girls team assuming the Vikings can stay injury free.

Senior Elizabeth Smith is expected to challenge to place in the top 20 of most meets. Erin Osborne and Alandia Strong are the other two seniors on the squad.

Junior Hannah Fanczyk, sophomore Olivia Linsky and freshman Annalise Gibbons will all contribute to the VASJ team this fall.

“They are all good kids and work hard and are a pleasure to coach,” McNulty said. “We will see how they compete this year.”
