Will Butler proved to the state of Ohio what kind of 3-point range he has when he earned first-team Division III all-tournament honors while helping VASJ win the state championship on March 25.
At halftime of the News-Herald Classic at Lakeland Community College on April 1, Butler showed off to the local fans the same kind of long-distance accuracy.
Butler edged Mentor’s Jack Korsok and Kenston’s Josh Kain to win the 3-point shootout. Butler scored 10 points in the tied contest while Korsok and Kain each finished with 9.
“I had fun,” Butler said. “I came in with the mindset knowing I was going to win it. I was confident about it and Coach was pressuring me to win it, so I had to do what I had to do.”
Butler said playing in the game with Korsok and Hawken’s Brendan Paul brought back memories from AAU days.
In the all-star game, Butler scored 12 points for the Blue in a 132-123 overtime loss. VASJ senior guard Terrance Lawler scored 11 points and teammate Andre George added eight.
