A trio of VASJ wrestlers will take the mat at the Division III Garfield Heights District tournament on March 3-4 with a shot at a spot in the state tournament at stake.
King Seyou (132), Kiras Kijauskas (195) and Independence sectional heavyweight champion Pat Sheridan are all set to participate in the district tournament for the Vikings.
Nate Oriani and Re’ Williams are alternates at the district tournament for VASJ.
“All the guys worked really hard this week,” VASJ coach Bob Mullin said. “Quality scrimmages at St. Ignatius twice and morning runs. All old school ways of getting kids ready.”
Seyou, a junior, will face Logan Kissell in the opening match. Kissell is a junior from Garretsville Garfield and a sectional champion.
Kiajauskas – a talented sophomore – will wrestle Bradley Turner, a senior from Grand Valley, in his first match.
Sheridan, a junior who is 26-3 with 26 pins, opens the district vs. Caleb Ritter from Hillsdale.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University next weekend.
